People regularly go on detox diets and clear out anything naughty from their lives, but for some reason the thought of detoxing your bathroom cupboard seems daunting! It might feel like there’s an overwhelming amount of information out there, making it hard to know what is ‘good’ and ‘bad for your skin.
So here’s a couple of tips from us to get you started...
- Just one item at a time
Completely replacing your skincare products in one go can be an expensive exercise. However, if you switch each product when one runs out – it becomes a whole lot more manageable. Then you’ll also get to test products out to see what you think before making a complete commitment to organic skincare. We’re biased, but we don't think you’ll look back!
- Avoid synthetic fragrances
These can irritate the skin and in severe cases exacerbate allergies. It’s best to choose products that use essential oils. Icing on the cake is that the scent is divine…real roses, lavender…
- Leave the cleanser switch till last
Which products to switch first? Choose products such as moisturisers – the ones that stay on your skin for the longest. It’s important to change cleansers too, but if you have to prioritise we’d recommend moisturiser then cleanser.
- Get to know the ingredients and sources
It’s not imperative to know the name of every ingredient – but at least know the names of the ones you wish to avoid. You will also start to build up knowledge on what products are natural, organic, Australian made and/or cruelty-free so you can select based on your preferences.
- Keep it simple
How many products do you have? Count them! Do you really use them all? When you are replacing products remember your skin routine doesn’t need to be complicated! You may find a cleanser, toner, day moisturiser, night moisturiser, eye cream and gentle face exfoliator is all you need for the week.
